Do-It-Yourself Carpet Procedures
To Remove Skunk Musk Oils, Using A Wet Extraction Power And Vacuum Unit.
1. Isolate the spots to be treated.
Tips on identifying contaminated areas: Use a black light to determine where the contamination is at on your carpet. In order for a black light or a UV light to work effectively, natural sources of UV must be blocked out. Urine contamination will glow a greenish/yellow or an optical brightener glow of bluish/white. Once the contamination has been identified, mark with a white chalk. DO NOT use a colored piece of chalk, this will cause a stain. Mark the spots by making a circle around each spot.
2. Prepare your solution: use 2-3 oz. of colorless mild washing detergent. DO NOT use more than 3 oz. per gallon, the goal is to keep the solution neutral or containing an alkali of 8-9 ph. ADD 3 oz. of your favorite fabric softener, this will work well to soften water minerals and also work as a deodorant.
3. Apply your solution directly to the urine spot. ALWAYS concentrate your efforts to a small area to begin with. Press firmly on your vacuum tool to remove as much excess moisture as possible. DO NOT RUB. Use caution when scrubbing or massaging fibers, heavy pressure may tear or loosen fiber strands or cause fuzzing.
4. Spray area well using a trigger sprayer and an equal mixture of white vinegar and water. Spray once heavy and wait 2-3 hours. If lingering odors remain repeat steps 2, 3, 4.
NOTE: We do not make any guarantees that you will be successful at total removal of skunk musk odors. Each situation is different. We have proven these procedures to be effective in minor contamination situations. There is nothing wrong with experimentation and imagination. Just remember to test first and go slowly. Good luck.
TIP: If neither solutions impress you we highly advise you seek the aid of a professional that specializes in odor removal.
Do-It-Yourself Wood Furniture Cleanup
To Remove Skunk Musk Oils From Wood Furniture.
* Prepare Fresh Cleaning Solution (warm water)
CAUTION: Wash wood surfaces with mix solution, DO NOT use too much water. Start from top and work down, avoid spillage. Kneel and scuff marks can be removed by rubbing with the grain using Steel Wool No.00. Extreme care must be used when cleaning all wood furniture or surfaces.
NEVER allow water to stand on any wood surface. Water can penetrate into the pores of the wood, causing it to swell or warp. Water can also cause damage to unsealed woods. The general rule for wood is to use little water with an immediate drying procedure.
After cleaning use linseed oil or similar polish for natural finish woods. Be careful certain types of polish will damage wood. (Follow instructions when using liquid type furniture polish).
